Mark Chao looks charismatic here and at some points kinda resembles Andy Lau in previous Detective Dee since it's about his younger days. But of course I am Andy's bias and Mark isnt as shiny as him. Hehe~
- William Feng as Yuchi
The 8th prince turns into super skilll martial art police officer in Tang;s era. Reminds me of Deng Chao in previous movie. Luckily he doesnt end up as roasted meat here. Acting skill is also shiny.
- Kenny Lin as Shatuo
As usual, young and quite a free soul, like 14th prince :) His comic face cant really bring a serious atmosphere.
- Angela Baby as Yin Ruiji
Huang Xiaoming's wife, half Chinese half Germany where she portrays as a courtesan from Fuyu country, enemy of Tang. Fuyu country is a country before Goguryeo (Korea) dynasty. Hehe...
and the last but not least, - Kim Bum as Yuan Zhen
... Well his voice is subbed and he doesnt even act much here but who cares because he is the shiniest person in this movie. Sorry Kenny Lin ...
Brief Story :[Spoiler Alert]
- Detective Dee and Yuchi bot h tried to solve who's behind the sea monster and found out that the neighboring little country called Dongdo (between China and Japan) is the culprit. The master of the seamonster named Huoyi and somehow mutated sea creature to become beastly and obey his commands. With help of information from Yuan Zhen, they managed to kill Huo Yi and subdue the sea monster, bringing peace to Tang's kingdom.
... And what is Yuan Zhen story ? Here we go ...
Yin Ruiji is a famous courtesan and loves poetry, fell in love with Yuan Zhen, the young master of Tranquil Teahouse. They both share the same interest in poetry and ... both beautiful for sure. *envy mode ON*
One day Huo Yi came to ask Yuan Zhen a secret recipe of Bird's Tongue tea which only presented to imperial family. Since it's the secret of his family, Yuan Zhen refused it and Huo Yi put poison into his drink to turn him into half-monster. Huo Yi kidnapped Yuan Zhen, forced him to make the tea. He then sipped poisons into the tea to harm imperial family.
One day Yuanzhen managed to escape and hiding near Ruiji's home and wait for the right time to tell her. Chased by Huo Yi men and dealing with his own mosntrous character, eventually Yuan Zhen saved by Dee and began to receive healing from Shatuo's teacher. He then help Dee about Huo Yi's whereabouts.
